FAQ
When ordering a custom-made Filipiniana gown, taking precise body measurements is crucial to ensure a perfect fit. Here is a detailed measuring guide for women to help you capture the correct measurements for a custom Filipiniana gown:
1. Bust
- How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, ensuring the tape runs across your back and over the apex of your chest.
- Tip: Keep the tape parallel to the floor and snug but not tight, allowing for comfort.
2. Underbust
- How to measure: Place the tape around your ribcage, just beneath your bust.
- Tip: Ensure that the tape is parallel to the floor and fits snugly without being too tight.
3. Waist
- How to measure: Measure around your natural waist, which is typically the narrowest part of your torso, about an inch above your belly button.
- Tip: Stand up straight and relax your stomach. Do not suck in your waist to get an accurate measurement.
4. Hips
- How to measure: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, usually 7-9 inches below your natural waist.
- Tip: Keep the tape parallel to the ground for an accurate measurement.
5. Shoulder Width
- How to measure: Measure from the tip of one shoulder (where your arm begins) across the back to the tip of the other shoulder.
- Tip: The tape should run straight across the back, ensuring it doesn’t dip down along the shoulder blades.
6. Arm Length (For Sleeved Filipiniana)
- How to measure: Start from the edge of the shoulder down to the wrist or to your preferred sleeve length. For traditional Filipiniana butterfly sleeves, you might stop around mid-upper arm.
- Tip: Bend your arm slightly to allow for flexibility in movement, especially if you’re measuring for long sleeves.
7. Sleeve Opening (For Sleeved Filipiniana)
- How to measure: Wrap the tape around your upper arm at the point where the sleeve will end. This ensures the sleeve opening fits comfortably around your arm.
- Tip: Leave a little extra room for ease of movement, especially for traditional butterfly sleeves.
8. Back Length
- How to measure: Measure from the base of your neck (where your neck meets the shoulders) down to your waistline.
- Tip: Stand straight for accurate results, and have someone assist you if possible.
9. Gown Length (Dress Length)
- How to measure: Measure from the top of your shoulder down to the floor, or wherever you want the gown to end. This measurement is essential for long Filipiniana gowns that typically reach the floor.
- Tip: Wear the shoes you plan to use with the gown to get an accurate length measurement.
10. High-Low Gown Length (Optional)
- If you are opting for a high-low gown style, where the front is shorter than the back, measure from the shoulder to where you want the front hem to fall, and from the shoulder to the floor for the back hem.
- Tip: Take both front and back measurements for precision.
11. Neck Circumference
- How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your neck, where the collar or neckline of the gown will sit.
- Tip: Make sure the tape is snug but not too tight, leaving some room for breathing and comfort.
12. Upper Bust (Above Bust)
- How to measure: Measure above the bust, around the top of your chest, just under your arms.
- Tip: This is important for ensuring that the gown fits well around the shoulders and upper chest, particularly for Filipiniana designs with a wide neckline.
13. Nape to Waist
- How to measure: Measure from the nape of your neck (the base of the neck at the back) down to your natural waistline.
- Tip: This measurement ensures that the bodice of the gown will sit properly on your torso.
14. Waist to Floor (Skirt Length)
- How to measure: Measure from your natural waistline down to the floor. This is important for the length of the skirt portion of the gown.
- Tip: Wear the shoes you intend to use with the gown to get an accurate measurement.
Additional Tips:
- Wear proper undergarments: When measuring, wear the undergarments you plan to wear with the gown, especially if you plan to use shapewear or a specific bra.
- Stand straight: Keep a relaxed posture but stand straight while measuring, as slouching or sucking in your stomach can distort the measurements.
- Get assistance: It’s best to have someone help you measure, especially for hard-to-reach areas like shoulder width, back length, and gown length.
- Measure twice: Double-check all measurements to ensure accuracy before submitting them for the custom gown.
With these measurements, you’ll be able to provide your designer or tailor with precise information to create a perfectly fitted Filipiniana gown that is both elegant and comfortable.
